CrosslandX Gear Shift Indicator Fault
Summary of the thread
The gear shift indicator on a 2021 Vauxhall CrosslandX is malfunctioning, causing erratic automatic transmission behavior, gear slippage, grinding noises, and a dead gear selection display. A defective control unit is suspected as the cause. It is advised to check sensor connections related to the transmission control, but ultimately, a workshop diagnosis confirmed the control unit's failure, leading to its replacement and recalibration.

Indeed, your description aligns closely with what I'm experiencing. When you mention sensor connections, are you referring to specific sensors related to the transmission control, or a broader examination? Could you elaborate on the sensors that were most pertinent to your situation?

To be honest, I'm not the most technically gifted. I just recall the mechanic mentioning something about sensors feeding information to the control unit. If the unit isn't getting the right signals, it gets confused. If you're getting grinding and slipping, and the display is dead, it really does sound like the unit itself is fried. My advice? Get it to a workshop before it causes more damage.

I appreciate your insights. I took it for diagnostics, which confirmed a defective control unit. The replacement and recalibration cost 1000€, as expected. Thank you for averting a potentially more catastrophic outcome.

Sounds familiar. I had similar issues with my CrosslandX. Was it struggling to find the right gear? Did it feel like it was hunting around before eventually slamming into gear? I know the feeling. I'd double-check all the sensor connections first, but it does sound like that dreaded control unit.
