CrosslandX Increased Fuel Consumption Stalling

I'm having issues with my 2020 Vauxhall CrosslandX with a gasoline engine. Fuel consumption has increased, the engine stalls when idling, and the check engine light is on. Plus, I noticed smoke when accelerating. A friend thinks it might be the mass air flow meter. Has anyone experienced such problems? The air filter seems clean.

The symptoms you describe align with a malfunctioning mass air flow (MAF) sensor. A faulty sensor can disrupt the air/fuel balance, leading to higher fuel consumption, stalling, and even smoke due to incomplete combustion. Have you observed any decline in engine performance?

Yes, now that you mention it, I have noticed a slight decline in overall engine performance. Acceleration is not as responsive as it used to be. What would you recommend as the next course of action? Should I try cleaning the MAF sensor, or is it likely beyond repair?

Cleaning the MAF sensor may provide a temporary improvement, but a replacement is often necessary for a lasting solution. Considering the potential impact on your engine's efficiency and performance, I'd recommend consulting a qualified technician for a proper diagnosis and replacement of the MAF sensor.

I took your advice and visited my local workshop. They confirmed that the mass air flow meter was indeed defective. I had it replaced, and the total repair cost came to 365€. The issues are resolved.
