CrosslandX preheating lamp and check engine light
Summary of the thread
A 2018 Vauxhall CrosslandX diesel exhibited issues with the preheating lamp not turning off, the check engine light being on, and smoke during acceleration. The suspected cause was a defective preheating control unit or faulty connections. After diagnostic checks and advice, it was found that a corroded connector on the preheating control unit was the problem. Cleaning the connector resolved the issue.

Yes, I used an OBD reader, and it pointed towards the preheating unit. I am curious, was it definitively the control unit itself, or did you identify a specific wiring fault or connector issue? Any details you can share would be helpful before I start replacing parts.

In my case, the issue was indeed within the control unit itself, but it was triggered by a loose connection. I suggest taking it to the workshop before replacing the unit to make sure that there is no problems with the connection.

Thanks for the insight. I followed your advice and took it to a local garage. Turns out it was a corroded connector on the preheating control unit, just as we suspected. Cleaned it up, and everything's back to normal. Total cost: 95€ Appreciate the help!

I've experienced almost identical symptoms with my CrosslandX. The preheating lamp issue, accompanied by the check engine light and smoke upon acceleration, strongly suggests a problem within the heating module or associated electronics. Did you perform any diagnostic steps, such as checking the fault codes via OBD?
