CrosslandX Stalling Issues: Fuel Pump or Something Else?

Hey everyone, my 2017 Vauxhall CrosslandX (petrol) has been acting up lately. The engine keeps stalling out of nowhere, struggles to start when cold, lacks power, and runs rough with jerking during acceleration. Check engine light is also on. I suspect it might be the fuel pump, but I'm not 100% sure. Has anyone dealt with similar symptoms on their CrosslandX? Would love to hear what the actual problem was and how your mechanic fixed it. Looking for some real-world experiences before heading to the workshop. Thanks!

Hey there! I had a very similar issue with my 2015 Vauxhall Mokka (also had this with my previous Astra). I have some experience working on cars, but mostly basic maintenance stuff. My symptoms were almost identical, stalling, rough idle, and that annoying jerking during acceleration. Took it to my regular workshop, and it turned out to be a software calibration issue with the fuel pump. They reprogrammed the ECU with the correct values, cost me about 45 Euro, and the car's been running smooth since then. Before I can give you more specific advice though, how many miles/km on your CrosslandX? When did these symptoms first start? Any recent maintenance or repairs? Might help pinpoint if we're dealing with the same problem here.

Thanks for your input! My CrosslandX has 175169 KM on the clock, and the issue started about two weeks ago, shortly after my last service in March. You might be onto something with the ECU calibration, I'll definitely mention this to my mechanic. Really hoping it's just a software issue like yours and not the actual fuel pump hardware. Glad to hear you got it sorted without breaking the bank! I'll keep you posted on what my mechanic finds.

Hey again! Glad you got back to me! Yeah, with that mileage on your CrosslandX, it definitely sounds similar to what I experienced with my Mokka. Actually, I forgot to mention in my first reply that I also started having these issues right after a routine service, what a coincidence, right? I should mention though, when I first had this problem, I was super worried it was going to be an expensive fuel pump replacement. But since you mentioned it started after your service, I'm even more convinced it's probably that ECU calibration issue I had. My mechanic told me that sometimes when they do routine maintenance, it can trigger these weird software glitches in the fuel management system. Quick tip from my experience, when you take it to the mechanic, make sure they check the fuel pressure readings before jumping to any conclusions. With my Mokka, they initially thought it might be a failing pump too, but the pressure readings helped them figure out it was just the software being weird. Let me know how it goes! Really hoping you can get it sorted as easily and cheaply as I did. These Vauxhalls can be a bit finicky with their electronics sometimes, but they're good cars overall.

Oh wow, that's really helpful to know about the fuel pressure readings! I'll definitely ask my mechanic to check those first. It's such a relief to hear that you had almost the exact same situation after a service, makes me feel much better about the whole thing. I've booked it in for next Tuesday, and I'll make sure to mention both the ECU calibration and fuel pressure check. Really appreciate you taking the time to share your experience! Thanks again for all the detailed advice. I was stressing about potentially having to replace the entire fuel pump, but now I'm feeling much more optimistic. Will update you once I get it sorted!
