Crown Exhaust Temperature Sensor Issue

My 2018 Toyota Crown hybrid's check engine light is on. Engine performance is down, and fuel consumption is up. The OBD reader says it's a faulty exhaust temperature sensor. Could that be the cause?

I had a similar issue with my Crown, though I didn't check the error codes. Same symptoms: check engine light and performance drop. Have you noticed any temperature fluctuation in the exhaust readings? That could narrow it down.

Temperature fluctuation? I'm not sure how to check that. The OBD reader just gave the error code for the exhaust temperature sensor. Is there a way to monitor the temperature, or is that workshop territory?

If you're not comfortable digging into the engine management system, take it to a workshop. My temperature sensor was faulty due to a small exhaust leak. It caused the same problems you described. They replaced the sensor, sealed the leak, and it was back to normal.

Thanks for the advice! Sounds like my issue. I'll book it in and mention the exhaust leak possibility. Hopefully, it's a straightforward fix like yours. They quoted me 265€ for the repair, sensor and labor included.
