Crown transfer case slippage

Thanks, I haven't drained the transfer case yet to check the fluid. Should I get a full fluid analysis, or would a quick look and smell be enough at first? What should I look for that would mean serious wear and tear?

A fluid analysis would be the most detailed, but a simple visual inspection is a good start. If the fluid is dark, sludgy, or has metal shavings, that's a strong sign of mechanical wear. Considering your symptoms, it might be best to take it to a qualified workshop for a professional assessment. They can check the gears themselves.

I took the Crown to my service center, and they found defective gears in the transfer case. Replacing the transfer case oil cost me 330€. Thanks for the help!

Slipping and rough shifts on a hybrid Crown could point to transfer case issues. Have you checked the condition of the transfer fluid? What does it look like, and does it smell burnt? It might give us a clue as to how bad things are.
