Crown Vic fuel pressure issue
Summary of the thread
A 2001 Ford Crown Victoria is experiencing a check engine light, occasional stalling at idle, and reduced engine power, with OBD codes indicating a fuel volume regulator issue. The suspected cause is a defective high-pressure fuel pump, confirmed by low fuel pressure readings. The recommended solution is to have the vehicle inspected and repaired by a professional workshop, which ultimately resolved the issue by replacing the faulty pump.

Thanks for the insight! I did check the fuel pressure, and it seemed lower than expected, especially at idle. Did you also see similar low-pressure readings when you faced this issue? What did you end up replacing?

Precisely! Low fuel pressure was the key indicator for me too. Don't muck about with this yourself too much - you'll end up chasing your tail. Given the symptoms and the low pressure readings, the best course of action would be getting it over to a workshop, so they can give it a good look. I was getting secondary misfires all over the shop because of it.

Appreciate the advice. I took it to a workshop as you suggested. Turns out my high pressure fuel pump was indeed defective and caused the low pressure condition. The final repair bill, including parts and labor, came to 1510€. Thanks again for sharing your experience; it helped steer me in the right direction!

I had a similar problem with my Crown Vic! The symptoms you describe sound eerily familiar. Check Engine Light? Yup. Stalling? Been there. Reduced power? Oh boy, do I know that feeling. Have you checked the fuel pressure readings at the rail? That's where I started digging when I encountered my issues.
