Crown Victoria brake light switch issue

I've got a 2005 Ford Crown Victoria, gasoline engine, with 215269 km on the clock. Experiencing a bad brake light switch issue. Getting an error stored in the error memory, brake light failure, and an error message popping up on the infotainment system. Suspect user error might be the root cause. Anyone else run into this?

Dude, I had something similar happen on my Crown Vic. Drove me nuts for a while. Was it intermittent at first, then just constant failure? I’m wondering if it's the switch itself or something else in the circuit. Have you checked the connector to the switch for corrosion or damage?

Intermittent at first is spot on. Connector looks fine, but I'll give it a closer inspection with a multimeter. When yours failed, did you notice anything specific that triggered it? Like, hard braking or bumps in the road?

Yeah, mine started after I slammed on the brakes pretty hard to avoid some idiot pulling out in front of me. I'm thinking that action damaged the switch. Honestly, with it being intermittent and all, I'd just swing by a workshop and get it checked.

Turns out, the brake pedal wasn't fully returning after being pressed, preventing the switch from disengaging properly. Readjusted the pedal stop, and the problem's gone. Total cost: 0€!
