Crown Victoria Engine Runs Lean
Summary of the thread
A 2004 Ford Crown Victoria is experiencing lean engine conditions, characterized by reduced power, a check engine light, rough running, and jerking during acceleration. Possible causes include insufficient fuel delivery, potentially due to faulty injection valves. Suggested solutions involve checking the mass air flow sensor, oxygen sensors, and cleaning the throttle body. Ultimately, the issue was resolved by identifying and replacing a defective fuel injector.

Thanks, that's helpful! I haven't touched the mass air flow sensor or oxygen sensors. I will check, but did cleaning your throttle body solve the issue, or was it more involved?

Cleaning the throttle body made a slight improvement, but ultimately, the problem persisted. The diagnostic pointed to a defective fuel injector. Considering the mileage, it might be worth having your injectors professionally tested. If they are the problem, going to a mechanic is the right choice.

Thanks for the advice. I took it to the shop, and you were right! It was indeed a defective fuel injector. All in all, it cost me 515€ to fix it. At least the old girl is running smoothly again.

I experienced similar symptoms with my Crown Victoria. Have you checked your mass air flow sensor or oxygen sensors? A faulty sensor can throw off the air-fuel ratio and cause the engine to run lean. When was the last time you cleaned your throttle body?
