Crown Victoria engine stalls at idle

I own a 2002 Ford Crown Victoria with a gasoline engine. Recently, the check engine light illuminated, and the engine stalls at idle. Could a faulty gas cap cause this?

Summary of the thread

The 2002 Ford Crown Victoria experienced engine stalling at idle and an illuminated check engine light. Initially, a faulty gas cap was considered as a potential cause. However, it was suggested that the issue might be due to a clogged hose to the purge valve, a common problem in such vehicles. Upon inspection, the clogged hoses were confirmed as the cause, and after repair, the issue was resolved.

I have a Crown Victoria as well. Those symptoms sound like a tank ventilation issue, specifically a clogged hose to the purge valve. Have you checked those?

The hoses, specifically? Is that a common problem?

Indeed, a very common problem. I'd recommend a visit to a trusted workshop.

Thank you for the advice. As suspected, the tank ventilation valve hoses were clogged. Repair cost 175€. Issue solved.
