Crown Victoria rear ventilation issue

My 2002 Ford Crown Victoria with a gasoline engine is having issues with the rear ventilation. The error memory has logged a fault, the climate control unit is malfunctioning, and the air conditioning no longer cools. I suspect a defective cable or plug connection. Has anyone experienced something similar?

Sounds familiar. I had similar symptoms in my 2014 Audi A6. Turned out to be a flap actuator issue. Check the wiring harness and the plug connecting to the rear ventilation flap actuator. They're often located in a spot where they're exposed to moisture or physical stress. Is the actuator itself making any strange noises when you start the car or adjust the climate control?

Thanks for the tip. I haven't noticed any strange noises from the actuator itself. Do you remember if the error code you got pointed directly to the actuator, or was it more general?

The error code was pretty generic, something along the lines of 'rear air distribution malfunction'. It didn't explicitly name the actuator. Given the symptoms and the age of these cars, I'd say just take it to a workshop. It's likely a pain to get to and diagnose properly without the right tools. I ended up paying around 95€ for the fix, so not bank-breaking.

Appreciate the advice. Took it to the shop, and you were spot on. Defective plug connection to the rear ventilation flap actuator. Replaced the connector and all is working now. Total cost: 95€ Thanks!
