Crown Victoria vibrating steering wheel

I'm having a strange issue with my 2008 Ford Crown Victoria (gasoline engine). At 76970 km, the power steering is acting up. I'm getting a vibrating steering wheel, spongy handling, and an error code. It's also much harder to steer, almost like the power steering is failing intermittently. I suspect a defective cable or plug connection. Anyone else experience this?

Sounds familiar! I had similar problems with my Crown Vic. Is the hydraulic fluid level okay? Check that first. If it is, then it might be a steering rack issue. Does it feel like it's pulling to one side?

Thanks for the quick reply! The hydraulic fluid level seems fine, and it's not really pulling to one side. It's more like the power assist is cutting in and out, causing the vibration and making it hard to steer. Any thoughts on the steering rack itself? And did you have an error code too?

Yeah, I had an error code as well. In my case, the symptoms got worse quickly. It's probably best to take it to a workshop and get it checked properly. They'll be able to diagnose the issue and give you a quote.

Appreciate the advice! I took it to the workshop, and you were right – it was a defective connection. They fixed the cable/plug, and the steering is back to normal. Total cost was 95€.
