Cruise Control Dead? Check Actuator Before Spending Big

Need help with Cruise Control System Malfunction Running a 2010 Chevy Tacuma (67K km, gas engine) with some concerning issues. The dashboard's throwing up warning lights, cruise control's completely dead, and the diagnostics show there's something stored in the error memory. Had a not-so-great experience with my last mechanic, so I'm hesitant about going back. Has anyone dealt with similar cruise control issues? Could this be a simple faulty system or something more serious with the actuator? Looking for recommendations on what to check first and what kind of repairs to expect. Would really appreciate hearing about your experiences and repair costs before I commit to a shop.

Had the same issue on my 2013 Chevy Aveo last month. The diagnostics revealed it was a combination of two problems, a loose connection at the fuse box and a faulty brake pedal sensor that was messing with the cruise control actuator. The root cause was corroded wiring connections near the throttle body, which triggered multiple car electronics failures. Initial symptoms matched yours, warning lights and dead cruise control. What seemed like a simple cruise malfunction turned out to be an interconnected system issue. Started with basic troubleshooting, checking fuses and scanning error codes. The permanent fix required replacing the brake pedal sensor and rewiring some corroded connections. It was a serious electrical issue that could've led to other system failures if left unchecked. Quick tip: Have them check the brake light switch and wiring harness connections first, that's often the culprit with cruise control problems in these models.

I'm also dealing with a similar non-functional cruise control in my 2010 Tacuma. After reading about your electrical diagnosis and repair process, it seems my issue could be related. The corrosion you mentioned in the wiring near the throttle body really caught my attention since my car electronics have been acting up lately too. Would you mind sharing what the repair cost you in the end? Also curious if you've had any other issues pop up since the fix? Just want to get a sense of what I'm in for before heading to the shop. Those fuse box and wiring repairs can sometimes lead to other surprises.

Just wanted to update on my Aveo's cruise control situation. Got it fixed last week and the repair was way simpler and cheaper than expected, just 95 Euro to sort out a bad cable connection. Turns out the wiring near the throttle body wasn't as corroded as initially thought. The mechanic found a loose plug connection that was causing all those car electronics warnings. Once they secured that, the steering wheel cruise controls started working perfectly again. The faulty system warnings cleared up right away too. No other issues have popped up since the fix, everything's running smooth. The repair shop did a thorough check of all related components while they were at it, which gave me peace of mind. They also cleaned the connections to prevent future problems. Much better outcome than I expected after seeing all those warning lights! Sometimes these non-functional cruise control issues turn out to be pretty straightforward fixes.

Thanks everyone for the advice! Wanted to give a quick update on my Tacuma's cruise control situation. Finally took it to a mechanic yesterday and got some good news. Turned out my steering wheel controls weren't the real problem, it was just a loose connection and a dirty sensor causing the malfunction. The mechanic found a disconnected wire under the brake pedal that was triggering all those warning lights. They cleaned up the connections, secured everything properly, and now the cruise control's working perfectly again. The whole repair only took about an hour and cost me 120 Euro, way less than I was worried about! Best part is, all those scary dashboard warnings are gone now. The faulty system messages cleared up as soon as they fixed the loose connection. Really glad I didn't put this off any longer, could've led to bigger problems if left unchecked. Pretty relieved it wasn't anything major with the actuator or complicated electronics. Sometimes the simplest explanation is the right one!
