Cruze Alarm System Electrical Issue

Hey, I'm having a weird electrical issue with my 2021 Chevrolet Cruze, gasoline engine. I've got 67224 km on it. Lately, I've been getting an error related to the additional battery alarm system. The error memory has a fault stored, and the alarm system itself isn't functioning. Could this be related to a dying battery? I'm thinking the low voltage might be triggering it, even though the car starts fine. Has anyone experienced anything similar?

Summary of the thread

A 2021 Chevrolet Cruze is experiencing an electrical issue with the additional battery alarm system, which is not functioning and has a fault stored in the error memory. The problem might be related to a dying battery, as low voltage can trigger such errors even if the car starts fine. It is suggested to test and possibly replace the battery, as an aging battery can cause these specific error messages without affecting the car's starting ability.

Interesting. I have a Cruze too, and had something similar happen a while back. Is the battery indicator light also acting strange or flickering at all? When the alarm started acting up on mine, it turned out the battery was on its last legs. The system diagnosis indicated a weak battery signal. It was causing all sorts of seemingly unrelated electrical gremlins. How old is your battery?

That's good to know! No, the battery indicator light isn't doing anything weird. Just the alarm system error. My battery is the original one that came with the car. So, you're saying a weak battery can specifically mess with the alarm system like that? I would have thought it would affect starting the car first...

Yep, that's exactly what happened to me! The alarm system seems to be pretty sensitive to voltage drops. I was surprised too that it didn't affect starting immediately, but I guess the Cruze prioritizes that. Given your mileage and the age of the battery, it's highly likely that's the culprit. My local workshop confirmed that an aging battery can cause error messages like these. They quoted me 330€ to fix the issue, which was basically just the cost of a new battery and installation. To be on the safe side and to avoid being stranded somewhere, I'd recommend getting your battery tested and replaced if necessary.

Thanks so much for the insight! I really appreciate you sharing your experience. I'll definitely get the battery checked out ASAP. Sounds like that's the most likely cause. I'll let you know how it goes once I've had a chance to get it sorted. Cheers!
