Cruze NOx Catalyst and Exhaust Leak

I'm having a concerning issue with my 2010 Chevrolet Cruze, gasoline engine. The check engine light is on, and they found an error related to the NOx storage catalyst aging. I've also noticed what seems to be exhaust leaking, which I find really disturbing. The car has 227914 km on it. Has anyone experienced something similar? I'm quite worried about the air quality and NOx emissions, and I'm not sure where to even start!

Summary of the thread

A 2010 Chevrolet Cruze owner reported a check engine light related to NOx storage catalyst aging and suspected an exhaust leak. The issue was confirmed to be an exhaust system leak, which can affect air quality and emissions. The suggested solution was to have the vehicle inspected and repaired by a professional workshop. After addressing the exhaust leak, the check engine light was resolved, and the error was cleared.

Did this summary help you solve your problem?

Hey there! I had something similar happen with my Cruze. Check Engine light, and the garage mentioned something about the emissions system and the catalytic converter. I also thought I smelled exhaust fumes more than usual. Did they say anything about a possible leak in the exhaust system?

Yes, they did mention a possible leak in the exhaust system being a likely cause. Is that what you found with yours? Did you have any issues with the NOx catalyst specifically, or just the general emissions problem? And how did you solve it?

Yep, exhaust leak was the culprit! Honestly, I didn't dive too deep into the NOx catalyst specifics; it all sounded like complicated emissions stuff to me. I just took it to a trusted workshop and let them handle it. If they suspect a leak, it's probably best to get it checked out properly before it causes more damage or impacts your air quality even more.

Thanks so much for sharing your experience! It's reassuring to know someone else had a similar issue. I took your advice and went to a workshop. Turns out it was indeed a leak in the exhaust system. They fixed it, and the total repair cost was 265€. The check engine light is now off, and the error is gone. Thanks again for your help!
