CRV exhaust noise and error code

Interesting issue. I had something similar happen with my 2012 Audi A4. Is the noise constant, or does it change after the engine warms up? Also, have you noticed any difference in fuel consumption or engine performance? It does sound like a potential exhaust flap issue; perhaps the flap motor or actuator is faulty. Is it possible to check the exhaust flap position with an OBD scanner, or is it reporting errors regarding the actuator?

Thanks for the quick response. The noise is definitely worse when it's cold, then seems to quieten down a bit as the engine warms up. I don't think the fuel consumption has changed, and the performance seems normal. I've only got a basic OBD scanner, so I can see the error code but not much else. Do you reckon it's safe to drive like this for a bit, or should I get it checked out ASAP?

Given that the noise diminishes as the engine reaches operating temperature and you're receiving error codes, it strongly suggests a malfunction within the exhaust flap system. In my experience, driving with a defective exhaust flap for an extended period can potentially lead to further complications within the exhaust system, and possibly impact engine backpressure. While it might be 'safe' in the short term, a prompt inspection by a qualified technician would be prudent to ascertain the precise nature of the fault and prevent any consequential damage. A workshop will be able to check the flap motor, the flap actuator and the exhaust system in general.

Thanks for the advice. Took it to the workshop and you were spot on – faulty exhaust flap. They replaced it, cost me about 190€, and the noise is gone. Appreciate the help!
