CT200h EGR Valve Issue

I've got a 2014 Lexus CT200h hybrid with about 72825 km. I'm noticing reduced engine power, the check engine light is on, and there's a noticeable amount of smoke when accelerating. The engine also runs rough, and I've seen a bump in fuel consumption. There's also jerking when accelerating now and a loud hissing sound occasionally. Does this sound like a defective/jammed EGR valve to anyone else?

Sounds familiar. I had similar symptoms with my old Volvo C30 (diesel) a while back. Check engine light, rough running, and a bit of smoke under acceleration. Did you try cleaning the EGR valve or checking for any obvious blockages?

I haven't gotten around to cleaning it yet. I wanted to get some outside opinions before tearing things apart. When you say blockages, where exactly should I be looking? Any specific areas prone to clogging?

Yeah, I understand wanting a second opinion. For me, the blockage was pretty obvious once I got the EGR valve off. Lots of carbon buildup. But honestly, even after cleaning it, the problem came back not long after. In the end, I just had the valve replaced. Considering the symptoms and mileage, I'd recommend getting it checked out by a workshop, especially since you have a hybrid system to consider.

Thanks for the advice. I took it to my local mechanic, and they confirmed it was indeed the EGR valve. They replaced it for 355€, and the car is running much better now. Appreciate the help!
