CT200h Low Brake Fluid

Hi, I've got a 2020 Lexus CT200h hybrid with 137924 km. The brake fluid warning light came on. The fluid level is low, and I'm getting a strange vibration from the brake pedal. Could this be new brake pads, or a master cylinder issue? Is it worth topping off the fluid and seeing what happens?

Low brake fluid and strange pedal feel? Sounds familiar. I had a similar thing happen on my old Volvo V70. The light came on intermittently, and the pedal feel was off. Have you checked your brake pads for wear? That was the culprit for me. As the pads wear down, the pistons in the calipers have to extend further, requiring more fluid from the reservoir. Is there any visible leaking around the wheels?

Interesting, thanks for the insight! I haven't spotted any leaks. I suppose a thorough inspection of the brake pads is the next step. How quickly did the problem progress with your Volvo? Did you keep driving it, or did you take it in right away? Just wondering how urgent this is.

I kept driving it for a short while, topping off the fluid. Not the smartest move, I admit. Eventually, the light stayed on, and the pedal feel got worse. Turns out the pads were almost gone. I'd advise getting your brakes checked sooner rather than later. It's probably the pads, but if the fluid got too low, you might have introduced air into the system. Best to get it looked at by a professional, wouldn't you agree?

Alright, you've convinced me. I'll get it into the shop. Thanks for sharing your experience! The mechanic confirmed worn brake pads were the issue, causing the fluid level to drop. I also needed a fluid replacement. Total cost was 480€ but happy to have it resolved!
