CT5 Mirror Heater Failure Creates Winter Safety Concern

Thanks for the feedback. My mileage is currently at 122202 KM and my last service was performed last month. The heating suddenly stopped working on both mirrors simultaneously. All mirror adjustment controls work perfectly fine, and I have not noticed any other electrical problems with the mirrors or other vehicle safety systems. The temperature control unit appears to be functioning normally for all other car electronics and climate settings.

Thanks for providing those details. Based on your description of both mirrors failing simultaneously while all other mirror functions work normally, this actually sounds different from my previous CT4 issue. In your case, since: Both car mirror heaters failed at the same time, Other mirror functions work perfectly, No other electrical issues present, Regular maintenance is up to date This points more toward a potential control module problem rather than the heater element failure I experienced. When both sides fail together, its often the control unit that manages the mirror heating system rather than individual heating elements or wiring. The repair on my CT4 was straightforward because it only involved one mirror and was clearly a wiring issue. Your situation might require: Diagnostic testing of the mirror heating control module, Checking the main power supply to the heating system, Testing the temperature sensors, Possible control module replacement This could end up being a more complex fix than my previous repair, likely around 280€-350€ if the control module needs replacement. For vehicle safety during winter driving, you might want to have this checked soon. Would you be able to confirm if the error code specifically mentions the control module or individual mirror circuits?

I appreciate the detailed response. The error codes from my diagnostic scan actually show fault P0616, which indicates a control module issue rather than individual mirror heating elements. This aligns with your assessment about both mirrors failing simultaneously. Given the symptoms and error code, I agree this is likely a control module problem. Since winter is approaching and this is a safety concern, I will schedule a repair soon. The estimated cost range of 280€-350€ seems reasonable for this type of electrical fault repair. The temperature control issues being limited to just the mirrors, with all other systems working normally, definitely supports this diagnosis. I will have the shop check both the control module and power supply to ensure we address the root cause of the problem. Thanks for helping me narrow down the likely cause. This will make my discussion with the repair shop more productive.

As someone with some experience working on cars, I encountered a similar issue with my 2018 CT4 last winter. The rearview mirror heating system completely failed, making winter driving challenging. After checking the electrical connections, my workshop found the root cause was a faulty wire connection between the mirror control module and the heater element. The connection had corroded over time, breaking the circuit to the mirror heating system. The repair involved: Testing the electrical connections, Replacing damaged wiring, Checking the heater element functionality, Full system test after repair Total cost was 95€ and the repair took about 2 hours. Since then, the mirror heating has worked perfectly with no issues. Before suggesting specific solutions for your CT5, could you share: Have you noticed any other electrical issues with your mirrors? Does the problem affect both side mirrors? Did the heating stop working suddenly or gradually? Are the mirror adjustment controls still working normally? This information would help determine if your issue matches the electrical fault I experienced or if it might be a different problem with the heating element itself.
