Cube hissing sound and fuel economy drop
Summary of the thread
A 2012 Nissan Cube experienced a drop in fuel economy, a check engine light, and a loud hissing sound during acceleration. These symptoms suggested a possible air intake leak, likely due to a cracked intake hose. Inspection and replacement of the damaged hose resolved the issue, restoring normal vehicle performance.

Thanks for the tip! I'll definitely check the hoses more closely. Where exactly should I be looking? Is it usually near the throttle body or closer to the intake manifold?

In my experience, the most common location for leaks is near the hose clamps or where the hose connects to the throttle body or air filter box. Due to engine heat and vibrations, these areas are prone to cracking. Given your symptoms, I would advise against any advanced DIY repairs and instead suggest a visit to a workshop to ensure the issue is properly diagnosed and fixed.

You were spot on! Took it to a mechanic, and it was a cracked intake hose. Cost me 100€ to replace, and everything's running smoothly now. Thanks a bunch for the help!

I had a similar issue with my 2015 Opel Astra. The symptoms you describe – increased fuel consumption, check engine light, and a hissing noise – strongly suggest an air intake leak. In my case, it was a cracked intake hose between the air filter box and the throttle body. Have you inspected the air intake hoses for any visible cracks or damage?
