Cylinder Pressure Issue

Experiencing fluctuation in cylinder pressure with my 2015 Ford BMAX diesel. Symptoms include higher fuel consumption, reduced engine power, and check engine light. I've checked air filter and fluid levels, but haven't found anything. Could this be related to the timing belt, piston rings, head gasket, intake manifold or turbocharger?

Summary of the thread

The conversation revolves around a 2015 Ford BMAX diesel experiencing cylinder pressure fluctuations, higher fuel consumption, reduced engine power, and a check engine light. Initial concerns included potential issues with the timing belt, piston rings, head gasket, intake manifold, or turbocharger. A suggestion was made to check the EGR valve, as it could cause similar symptoms. Ultimately, the problem was identified as a faulty sensor, which was replaced, resolving the issue without additional cost.

I had a similar issue with my Ford Focus, also diesel. Symptoms sound awfully familiar. Have you checked the EGR valve? A faulty EGR valve can cause cylinder pressure issues and trigger those exact symptoms. It's worth a look before you start tearing into the engine. Any unusual noises coming from the engine, especially during acceleration?

I haven't specifically checked the EGR valve yet. There is a slight ticking sound, almost like a faint rattle, that becomes more noticeable when accelerating. Could this be related to the EGR valve, or is it potentially indicative of something more serious, like timing belt issues?

That ticking sound, coupled with the other symptoms, does sound concerning. While it could be EGR-related, it's difficult to diagnose without a proper inspection. Given the cylinder pressure fluctuations, I'd strongly advise against driving it too much and recommend taking it to a trusted workshop for a diagnostic check. It's better to be safe than sorry when dealing with potential engine damage. I really hope it's nothing major!

I took your suggestion and brought it to a workshop. Turns out, it was a faulty sensor causing all the issues! The cylinder pressure fluctuation was a ghost signal. The sensor replacement was covered and cost me 0€.
