Dacia Dokker 2017 Experiencing Black Smoke, Power Loss, Shaky Idling & Ignition Issues: Potential Injector Problem?

Stalling while idling

Car won't start

Unsteady engine

Shaking while idling

Check engine light on

Black smoke from exhaust on acceleration

Loss of engine power

Longer cold start time

Jerking on acceleration

Hi! I'm dealing with this puzzling issue with my 2017 Dacia Dokker, Gasoline engine variant. It's started throwing a lot of symptoms at me - black smoke on acceleration, the check engine light turned on, it's taking dang long to start when cold, feeling a drop in power in the engine, the engine isn't running smoothly, I'm getting jerks when I accelerate, sometimes it doesn't even want to start, idling is really shaky and it can even stall while idling! I'm suspecting an issue with an injector, but not very sure about it. Has anyone experienced the same and if so, how did you diagnose and fix it in your workshop? Would really appreciate if you could share your experiences or any advice you have. Thanks in advance!

Hey! I went through a similar problem with my 2015 Dacia Duster, a petrol-powered one as well. So first to let you know my level of car expertise - I've got some experience. Anyway, when I had these symptoms, it was indeed an injector issue, specifically an internally defective injector. I got it to my local workshop and, after thorough diagnostics, they figured out the actual problem. It needed a replacement and this fixed the issue, smooth as a whistle now. That fix set me back by about 515€, but definitely worth it. However, I'd like to know a bit more about your vehicle, like mileage, how it's been driven, any previous issues? Sharing these will help me to give more detailed advice that could potentially fit your situation. Remember, though, my knowledge is based on my own experience and may not always apply across the board. Cheers!

Hey! I appreciate your response. The whole shebang sounds a bit expensive, but if it gets my ride going smooth again, it'd be worth it. About my Dokker, it's covered a good 148415 KM and still going. Recently had it serviced too, not too long ago. I bought it lightly used in 2018, and it has been pretty reliable till now, so this whole situation is a bit frustrating. Still hoping for the best, fingers crossed it's just a faulty injector. I'll take your advice and get it to a pro for a thorough check-up. Thanks for your help!👍

No problem at all, glad to assist! Given your Dokker's mileage, we're exactly in the same ballpark as when I had my issue. Given the symptoms you've listed, I'm still leaning towards the injector issue. Though, there's a chance it could be something else as well - our cars might be cousins but they're not identical twins, if you get what I mean 😉. The key point here is to get it diagnosed thoroughly - a stitch in time saves nine, after all. Keep me updated with how it goes, and if you manage to get some error codes out of the diagnostics, do share here. We might be able to figure more out and you'll also help out the next guy who rolls in with a similar issue on their Dacia. Good luck with it and fingers crossed it won't be anything major! 🤞

You're spot on with that comparison, haha! 😄 Thanks a ton for your advice while dealing with all these hassles, your insight makes me feel less alone in this. I've booked a slot at my local workshop for a detailed diagnosis coming this weekend. Definitely, I'll keep you posted about the progress, any error codes and hopefully, a solution too. This thread might just end up being a helpful guide for the next Dacia owner facing the same. I'm really hoping it's not something major too, fingers crossed 🤞. Cheers and take care!
