Dacia Lodgy 2021 Gear Shifting Issues with Grinding Sound and Warning Light - Possible Transmission Oil Temp Sensor Problem

Hey! I need some help with my 2021 Dacia Lodgy with a petrol engine. Lately, it's been shifting gears in a weird way and makes this awful grinding sound. The car also shows a warning light on the speedometer. I'm thinking the transmission oil temp sensor might be kaput, but I want to get some more ideas before I go to my garage. Has anyone else experienced this and got it fixed? What exactly did you do and what was your experience like with your workshop? Thanks in advance for any advice!

Hey! I've had almost the exact same issue with my 2019 Dacia Sandero. She started making some concerning noises during shifting, just like your Lodgy. I'd describe my car-whizz abilities as "low," so I'm definitely not the guy to write a full-on repair manual. Anyway, I took my Sandero to my trusty local workshop. They took a look at it and told me the problem was the transmission oil level being too low. Shocker, right? They topped it up and the repair cost me around 365 Euro. Since then, it's been running smoothly and the performance has noticeably improved. May I ask how many miles your Lodgy has run? And have you checked your transmission fluid before for any leaks? Depending on these details, you may need a complete oil change or just a top-up as I did.

Hey there! I genuinely appreciate your swift response. My Lodgy's clocked around 51846 kilometers. Didn't really get the chance to check the transmission fluid, but your experience has enlightened me to consider that angle. I'm gonna get it inspected for any leaks soon and also check the oil level. It could indeed be just a top-up as you suggested, but there's also a possibility my car might need a complete oil change. I'm glad to hear your Sandero's running smooth post repair. Your experience does give me some peace of mind. Cheers!

Hi, great move deciding to check the fluid level. My Sandero had run around 60,000 km when I faced similar issues. Just from personal experience, at this sort of mileage, it could be more than a simple top-up. This grindy noise might also be a result of a worn clutch plate or if it's an automatic, worn bands. Seems like it's generally an inevitable part of ageing cars. After the oil level problem with my Sandero, I was suggested by the workshop to get the transmission fluid checked every 40,000 km or so. Could be something practical for you to consider as well. Gear slippage and erratic shifting were my initial symptoms and they both got better once the problem was fixed. So, even if it doesn't turn out to be the exact same problem, getting it looked at ASAP should avoid more serious (and more expensive) damage. Best of luck! Keep us updated on what your garage says!

Hey! Thanks for such insightful advice. I am aware of the age-related issues as my lovable Lodgy has been through a lot. Now, with your experience shedding more light, I do realize there is a high likelihood of it being more than just a top-up. Will follow your suggestion and aim to get the transmission fluid checked regularly from now on. Your gear slippage seems similar to mine. Fingers crossed it gets better with a proper check and repair. Appreciate your understanding and all the time you've put into helping me out here. I'll definitely keep you posted on what the at my garage say and what they end up doing. Cheers for the luck! And stay safe on the roads!
