Dacia Sandero '13 Overheating Issue: Suspected Engine Coolant Bypass Valve Failure

Hey! I'm a little concerned about my '13 Dacia Sandero with a gas engine and roughly 112k on the clock. Been seeing my engine light on and the car's been overheating. I had a nasty experience at the garage last time and I'm suspecting my engine coolant bypass valve could be the culprit. Anyone in here faced similar issues? How'd your mechanic handle it? TIA!

Hey, there. I own a '10 Dacia Logan, and I had a similar issue about a year ago. My coolant bypass valve cable connection was defective, and surely enough, it caused the engine to overheat and the engine light to illuminate just as you've described. Honestly speaking, it is quite a serious issue as it impacts the engine's cooling system, which if not fixed in due time, could lead to severe engine damage. As for the solution, my mechanic worked on fixing the coolant bypass valve connection. It was a bit tricky, involving disconnection and re-hooking some parts around the engine to get to the valve. After the repair, though, no more overheating, engine light went out and the car is still running smoothly. Just remember to get it sorted as soon as you can to prevent further problems down the line. Based on my experience, it sounds very much like the issue you're dealing with. Hope that helps you out!

Cheers for the info. Sounds like a situation I'm in with my Sandero - the overheating and that stubborn engine light! Really nerve-wracking, you know. So you mentioned your mechanic worked on fixing the coolant bypass valve, right? Do you recall how much that stung your pocket? And has anything related popped up since you got it all fixed, or has it been smooth sailing?

Hey, glad I could help. To answer your questions, I had to shell out about 155 Euro to my mechanic to get that pesky coolant bypass valve cable connection set right. It wasn't a walk in the park for my wallet, but considering what could have happened if I ignored it, it was well worth it. And you'll be glad to know, since that fix-up, the Logan has been on its best behaviour. Haven't had any more issues with the engine overheating or that devilish engine light reappearing. So yeah, it's been smooth sailing ever since. Seems sorting out that coolant bypass valve did the trick. Just make sure you get yours checked and fixed soon too. Good luck with your Sandero!

Ah, chucking out 155 Euro is a bit bumpy but I guess it's better than letting my dear Sandero down. Your words are quite comforting. Last thing I would want is my vehicle causing me more troubles over time. Seems like dealing with a coolant bypass valve issue isn't as horrendous as it first sounded to me. I appreciate you giving me the lowdown on your experience. I'll make my way to the mechanic ASAP. Hope my ride behaves just as nicely after the fix as your Logan. Thanks once again, champ!
