My Dodge Dakota is acting up with what seems like alternator issues. The engine runs weak, dashboard warning lights are on, and I have starting problems. Also noticed the headlights dim occasionally. The car is a 2007 model with 57169 km on the clock. Already had a mechanic check it but not satisfied with the service. Has anyone dealt with similar charging system problems on these trucks? Thanks for confirming what I went through. After seeing your reply, took my Dakota to a certified electrical specialist. Initial testing showed 11.5V output, way too low. The entire job cost me 875€ including a new alternator, belt, and complete diagnostic check. The shop did great work. They found the old alternator was totally shot and actually burning up the voltage regulator. Getting both replaced solved all my electrical problems. No more dim headlights or unusual warning lights. The car starts perfectly now and the engine runs way smoother. Best part, six months later and zero issues. The battery holds a perfect charge and all electronics work like new. Having a proper diagnosis made all the difference versus my first mechanic who just kept wanting to replace unusual parts. Only extra thing I had them check was the starter motor since they had easy access during the alternator swap. Glad I did because it showed early signs of wear.
