Dead Audi S5 Sunroof? Try Calibration Before Repair

Thanks for sharing your experience with the sunroof troubleshooting. I had the same problem with my S5 last winter. The sunroof control also failed completely and I really wanted to avoid the repair costs at first. Tried the basic resets mentioned in the manual but nothing worked. Would you mind sharing what the total repair cost was in your case? My sunroof mechanism needed a full control module replacement which was quite expensive. Just wondering if the prices are similar and if youve had any issues with the sunroof operation since getting it fixed?

Thanks for asking about the repair costs. The sunroof repair on my S4 was actually quite reasonable compared to what I initially feared. After replacing the control module and performing the necessary sunroof calibration, the total came to 475 Euro for parts and labor, plus 75 Euro for the coding work. The automobile sunroof has been working perfectly since the fix, no more initialization errors or operation problems. The vehicle sunroof mechanism now functions smoothly, and the sunblind moves exactly as it should. The sunroof troubleshooting confirmed it was definitely the control module causing all the issues, just like in your case. Really glad I got it properly diagnosed and fixed rather than continuing with DIY reset attempts. Been about 8 months now since the repair and zero problems with the system. The shop did a great job with the sunroof calibration and everything has remained correctly initialized. Seems like this is a solid permanent fix when done properly.

Finally went to get my S5 sunroof fixed after trying those DIY resets. The control module replacement cost me 590 Euro plus another 95 Euro for programming. More than I wanted to spend but the sunroof troubleshooting showed no other options. At least the repair shop completed everything in one day. Interesting that your repair costs were a bit lower. The automobile sunroof works perfectly now though, no more issues with the sunblind or glass panel movement. The sunroof calibration they did after installing the new module made everything work like new again. Really wish I had just taken it to the shop right away instead of messing around with those reset procedures for weeks. Been driving for about 3 months since the repair and the sunroof mechanism operates smoothly. Sometimes these electronic fixes end up being worth the cost even when they seem expensive at first. Just glad to have a working sunroof again before summer arrives.

Had the exact same sunroof operation issue on my 2014 Audi S4. The sunroof mechanism completely stopped working, both the glass panel and sunblind were unresponsive. After proper sunroof troubleshooting at the workshop, it turned out the main control module had failed, not just a calibration problem as initially suspected. The repair required removing the headliner to access the sunroof mechanism and replace the control unit. This was definitely not a DIY job. The module failure also affected other comfort systems connected to the roof controls. The sunroof initialization process was performed after module replacement to get all functions working properly again. Complete repair took about 6 hours at the shop. This type of failure is actually quite common on VAG vehicles from that generation once they pass 150k km. While this was a serious repair requiring specialized diagnostic equipment and coding, the good news is that once fixed, the sunroof system worked flawlessly again. Given your vehicle age and mileage, would recommend having it properly diagnosed rather than attempting DIY resets that likely wont resolve the underlying hardware issue.
