Dead Audio & Nav: Infiniti FX Audio Control Unit Fix?

Hey everyone, my 2007 Infiniti FX is having audio system problems. Both the sound system and navigation are completely dead no response at all. I suspect it might be related to the audio control unit, but I'm not sure. Has anyone dealt with a similar issue? I'd really appreciate hearing about your repair experience and what exactly needed to be fixed. Mainly interested in workshop solutions that actually worked. Thanks in advance!

Hey there! I had a really similar issue with my 2009 Infiniti EX35 last year. The bass speaker went completely dead, which messed up the whole audio system. Took it to my regular workshop, and they diagnosed it as a defective bass speaker that needed replacement. The whole thing, including labor, set me back about 280 Euro. The fix was pretty straightforward, but since these issues can have different causes, have you checked if any specific speakers are working at all? Does the system make any noise when you turn it on? Any error messages on the nav screen? This way I might be able to confirm if it's the same problem I dealt with. The FX series is pretty similar to my EX in terms of the audio setup. Let me know these details, and I'll try to help more!

Thanks for the input! Last service was actually just two weeks ago, and with 78679 KM on the clock, I didn't expect any issues this soon. No, there's absolutely no sound or noise when turning it on complete silence from all speakers. The nav screen stays completely black too, which makes me think it might be something more serious than just a speaker issue. I've already tried the basic stuff like checking fuses and doing a system reset by disconnecting the battery for a while, but no luck. Anyone else faced this complete system failure? Looking for suggestions before I head to the dealer and probably get hit with a massive bill.

Hey again! Oh hearing about your complete system failure actually reminds me of something else I experienced before the speaker issue I mentioned earlier. Around 2019, I had a similar total blackout situation no sound, black nav screen, the whole nine yards. Turned out it was actually the amp unit that died on me, not just the speakers like I first thought. Since you've already checked the fuses and tried the battery reset (those would've been my first suggestions), I'm pretty sure you're dealing with the same amp issue I had. In my case, the dealership diagnosed a fried amplifier something about a power surge that took out the whole unit. Cost me around 800 Euro to replace, which yeah, wasn't fun for the wallet. Quick question have you noticed any other electrical issues lately? Like flickering interior lights or weird behavior from other electronics? Just asking because in my case, that was kind of a warning sign before everything went dark. I'd say get it checked by the dealer I know it's expensive, but with these complex audio/nav systems, it's usually better to get it done right the first time. My regular mechanic actually admitted he wasn't comfortable messing with the integrated electronics. Keep us posted on what you find out!

Thanks so much for sharing that detailed experience! Actually, now that you mention electrical issues, I did notice my interior lights flickering a bit last week, but I didn't think much of it at the time. Sounds like I might be facing the same amp problem you had. Really appreciate the heads-up about the potential cost at least now I can mentally prepare for that 800 euro hit to my wallet. You're probably right about going to the dealer, even though I was hoping to avoid it. Better to get it fixed properly than risk making things worse with a non-specialist mechanic. I'll make an appointment with the dealer tomorrow and update this thread once I know what's actually wrong. Thanks again for all the help it's really valuable to hear from someone who's been through the same thing!
