Thanks for sharing your experience with the MMI issue. Since my original post, I got my Q5 fixed at a certified shop. The static noise and dashboard controls are working perfectly now. The faulty wiring turned out to be just part of the problem, they also found a defective amplifier that was causing the sound system to malfunction. Can you share what the final cost was for your repair? And have you had any recurring issues with the volume control or other audio functions since the fix? Just want to compare if the price I paid was reasonable for this type of work.

After getting my Q3 fixed at the shop, the complete audio system has worked flawlessly. The faulty wiring check and MMI display replacement came to 725 Euro total, which covered both parts and labor. No recurring issues with the volume control or car speakers since then. The sound quality is perfect now and all Bluetooth functions work as intended. The investment was worth it since trying cheaper fixes like speaker crackle diagnosis or basic electronic checks would have wasted time and money. Getting the complete system properly diagnosed and repaired the first time prevented any repeat visits. The repair bill seems reasonable considering the complexity of modern vehicle electronics. These integrated sound systems require specialized knowledge to repair correctly. Having zero audio problems for several months now confirms the shop did quality work.

Thanks everyone for the helpful replies. I took my Q5 to an authorized shop last week and got everything sorted. The head unit needed a full replacement due to a fried circuit board, plus they found some faulty wiring near the amplifier. Total cost came to 890 Euro for parts and labor. The dashboard controls and sound system are working perfectly now. The repair took about 4 hours since they had to reprogram the new unit to sync with the car. Really glad I went with a certified shop, they knew exactly what to look for and fixed it right the first time. Definitely learned my lesson about getting specialized repairs done at qualified shops. The car speakers are crystal clear again and the Bluetooth connectivity works even better than before. No more error codes or system crashes since the fix.

Last month I dealt with a similar audio system failure in my 2018 Audi Q3. The head unit displayed Display defective and completely stopped responding to volume control inputs. The root cause turned out to be more serious than just faulty wiring or speaker crackle. The diagnosis revealed a failed main control module that handles both the display and Bluetooth connections. This wasnt a simple fix like loose connections or car speakers going bad. The entire MMI control unit needed replacement since it affected multiple systems including navigation and climate display. The repair required specialized diagnostic equipment and programming to integrate the new unit with the vehicles systems. This is definitely a job for the dealership or a shop with Audi-specific expertise, as generic diagnostic tools wont properly communicate with these systems. While waiting for parts was frustrating, the actual repair time was relatively quick once components arrived. The new unit restored all functionality including Bluetooth pairing and audio output. This type of failure is uncommon in newer models but when it happens it requires proper diagnostic equipment and expertise. If youre seeing complete system failure rather than intermittent issues, its likely a similar control module problem requiring replacement rather than repair.
