Dead Power Windows After Mechanic Visit, VW Lupo Fix

Just wanted to follow up after experiencing similar window control issues with my Lupo last summer. This reset process worked great for me too when my window switch system failed after some electrical work. The window troubleshooting steps laid out here saved me a costly mechanic visit. Could you share how much the fix ended up costing if you had to take it back? Also curious if you have had any recurring window motor problems since then? My car window controls have been working fine after the reset, but I like to keep track of these issues in case they pop up again.

Happy to report that since replacing the vehicle battery and fixing the window regulator initialization, all power window systems have worked flawlessly. I did end up taking it back to the shop as they needed to properly reset the window control unit, which they should have done during the initial battery work. The total cost came to 290€ for the battery replacement and window system recalibration. No recurring window motor issues in the months since. The window switch functions are completely back to normal on all doors. Just make sure to keep track of when your battery needs replacement, as this is often the root cause of window troubleshooting headaches with these VW models. The car window electronics can be sensitive to power interruptions, but once properly reset, they tend to stay reliable. Worth noting that some garages might not be familiar with the specific window reset procedure for these models. It is worth mentioning this requirement if you ever need electrical work done.

After my window controls stopped working, I actually went back to the shop since the reset procedure only temporarily fixed the issue. The mechanic found that while doing the earlier work, they had accidentally damaged a wire in the door panel. The final repair bill was 180€, much less than I feared. They fixed the damaged wire, properly reset the window motor system, and double-checked all window controls. Even got them to test the window regulator function multiple times to make sure everything was working right. Its been 6 months now and no more window problems. The car window switches work perfectly on all doors. Really glad I took it back instead of trying more DIY fixes. Sometimes its worth getting the professionals to sort these electrical issues properly. Lesson learned, always test all controls right after any electrical work. Would have caught this issue immediately if I had checked the window operation before leaving the shop that first time.

Had the same issue on my 2001 VW Polo TDI after a battery replacement. The window electronics need a reset after power disconnection, this is a common occurrence with VW models. The window regulator and switch system requires recalibration when power is cut. Without this reset, the controls remain unresponsive and error messages appear. The fix is straightforward but specific: 1. Turn ignition to ON position 2. Press and hold window switch down for each window 3. Release and pull up immediately 4. Hold switch up for 5 seconds after window is fully closed 5. Repeat for all windows If this reset procedure fails, there might be deeper issues with the window motor or door panel wiring. In my case, the reset worked perfectly and all window controls returned to normal function. This is not a serious repair issue when caught early. Would strongly suggest trying the reset before returning to the shop. The mechanic should have performed this procedure after working with the battery.
