Dead Radio Signal & Interference Issues in Audi A4

A similar issue occurred with my 2015 A5 2.0 TFSI. The FM signal completely died, showing poor signal strength warnings consistently. Initial diagnosis revealed it wasnt just interference, the antenna assembly had corroded at the base where it connects to the ground wire. The main symptoms were identical: no radio reception, constant signal warnings, and error codes in the system. After proper diagnosis, the issue stemmed from a deteriorated antenna ground connection and water damage to the antenna amplifier module. This requires complete antenna assembly replacement, including the amplifier unit and ground wire harness. Its not a quick fix, the headliner needs partial removal to access the full assembly. The car radio functionality was fully restored after replacement. While antenna boosters might help with weak signals, they wont solve fundamental connection issues. Based on the symptoms described, its likely a hardware problem requiring component replacement. This is a known weak point in several models from this generation. The repair is not particularly complex but requires specific diagnostic equipment to verify the antenna circuit. Static noise and complete signal loss are typical indicators of antenna ground issues rather than simple interference problems.

Thanks for that detailed explanation. You really nailed it describing those radio signal symptoms, sounds exactly like what Im experiencing with my Audi. A big relief to hear its a known issue with the antenna assembly and ground connection. Quick question, do you recall roughly how much the complete repair cost with parts and labor? Also curious if youve had any signal strength problems since getting it fixed? Looking at booking it in next week as the poor signal warnings are getting pretty annoying. Plus Im worried about potential water damage to the amplifier module if I keep putting it off.

Good news, since having the antenna assembly replaced, the radio reception has been perfect with zero signal strength issues. The static noise and poor signal warnings completely disappeared after fixing the defective antenna components. The total repair came to 255 Euro including the new antenna assembly, amplifier module and labor costs. While not cheap, it was worth it to restore proper radio functionality and eliminate those constant warning messages. The repair shop confirmed what I suspected, the original antenna ground connection had significant corrosion damage. They also found moisture had affected the amplifier unit, which explained the vehicle electronics error codes. My advice would be to get it sorted soon to prevent any additional water damage to the system. The repair resolved all reception problems and the radio now works exactly as it should. No interference or signal issues whatsoever in the 6 months since the fix.

Good to report back after getting this sorted at the mechanic. Had the work done yesterday and they confirmed it was exactly what was described, corroded antenna assembly and water-damaged amplifier module causing all those signal strength problems. Bill came to 290 Euro total which seems fair compared to others experiences. The vehicle electronics specialist showed me the old parts and the corrosion damage was pretty obvious. Really interesting seeing how the antenna ground connection had deteriorated. Best part is the car radio works perfectly now. No more constant poor signal warnings or static interference. The repair took about 3 hours since they had to partially remove the headliner to access everything. Glad I didnt waste money trying an antenna booster first. Just wanted to close the loop here since the advice was spot-on. If anyone else runs into similar radio interference issues, definitely worth checking the antenna assembly and ground connection first rather than assuming its just a weak signal problem.
