Dead Tiguan Power Seat: Repair Costs & Solutions Guide

My passenger electric seat stopped working completely and stored an error code. When pressing the seat adjustment buttons, nothing happens, no movement, no sound. Looking for advice from anyone who had similar issues with their 2017 Tiguan 2.0 TDI (80000km). Had some questionable repair quotes and would appreciate hearing about your experiences with fixing the seat motor or seat wiring issues. What should I expect for repair costs and time?

Had exactly the same issue on my 2014 Passat 2.0 TDI. The automotive seat electronics completely died, no response from any adjustment controls. Initial diagnosis revealed the seat wiring harness was intact, but the main control module under the passenger seat had failed due to moisture damage. The problem often starts with the seat adjustment working intermittently before total failure. In my case, the repair involved replacing the entire seat control module since individual components cannot be serviced. The job required removing the passenger seat to access the electronics underneath. Labor time was around 2 hours for diagnosis and replacement. This is a serious repair that requires proper diagnostic equipment to verify the fault codes and test the new module. DIY attempts usually end up causing more problems with the seat wiring and connectors. Key symptoms to confirm similar issue: No movement or sound from seat controls, All seat adjustment functions dead simultaneously, No response even after battery disconnect/reconnect, Error code stored in comfort control module The repair restored full functionality to all seat adjustment features. Would recommend having a qualified shop diagnose the exact fault rather than replacing parts based on assumptions.

Thanks for sharing your experience with the power seat repair. Dealing with a similar issue on my 2016 VW Tiguan right now. The passenger seat stopped working last month and the symptoms match exactly what you described. Did the repair hold up well since then? Would be great to know if you remember the total cost for fixing the seat motor and control module. Really helps to have a reference point since repair quotes can vary quite a bit for electric seat issues. My seat harness looks intact from what I can see, so hoping its just the control module like in your case. Just want to make sure Im not getting overcharged for what seems to be a fairly straightforward repair.

After getting the repair done last week, I can confirm it was indeed the same issue as my previous post. The passenger power seat is now working perfectly again. Just like in my Passat case, the seat control module was the culprit, but this time the root cause was different, a heavily discharged battery that damaged the electric seat components. The total repair cost came to 290€, which included diagnosis, parts, and labor. The seat motor itself was actually fine, just the control module needed replacement. The mechanic completed everything in about 2 hours, similar to my previous experience. The seat switch and all adjustment functions are now responding normally. This repair cost seems fair compared to other quotes, especially since it required proper diagnostic equipment to identify the exact fault in the power seat system. Based on both experiences now, when electric seats fail completely, its usually the control module rather than the seat motor or wiring harness. These repairs typically hold up well long-term when done properly.

Thanks for the detailed follow up. Finally got my passenger seat fixed yesterday and wanted to share how it went. Took it to a local VW specialist after getting multiple quotes. Total bill came to 310€ which seemed reasonable given the work involved. The seat adjustment controls are working perfectly now. Turns out the control module was fried just like in your case. Mechanic mentioned seeing quite a few of these seat wiring failures lately. Job took about 2.5 hours including testing all functions. Really glad I didnt try fixing it myself, watching them remove the passenger seat to access everything underneath showed why this needs proper tools and knowledge. The diagnostic equipment they used to verify the repair was pretty impressive. Hopefully this helps others dealing with electric seat problems. Having a reference point on repair costs and knowing what to expect made a big difference in my case.
