Defective engine control light and error message in Skoda Superb Diesel (2015), experience and advice wanted

Hey guys, I need your help. I drive a Skoda Superb Diesel from 2015 with about 82000km mileage. I'm having some problems at the moment: Check engine light is on, engine just cuts out, can't get the car started and getting the error message coding faulty. My last experience with the mechanic was really miserable, so I would like to know: Have any of you ever had similar issues regardless of car make and model, and what was your experience with your mechanic? I appreciate any experience and advice you guys have!

Summary of the thread

A Skoda Superb Diesel from 2015 is experiencing issues with the check engine light being on, the engine cutting out, and an error message indicating faulty coding. A similar problem was encountered by another Skoda owner, who found that the issue was related to a sensor problem and required reprogramming of the control units. The suggested solution is to consult a reliable mechanic, as the problem could range from a simple sensor issue to something more serious. The advice emphasizes the importance of choosing a competent mechanic to ensure the car is properly fixed.

Did this summary help you solve your problem?

Hey, I know it well. I have a Skoda Octavia Diesel from 2012 and had almost the same drama. My check engine light was also on and the engine just stopped, just like yours. Here it was a sensor problem and the control units had to be reprogrammed. But it could also be a more serious problem, so it's better to go straight to a mechanic you've had good experience with! They only messed around with me last time, so it's better not to go to the cheapest one. The main thing is to get the car running again and then you can tackle the rest.

Hi, thanks for your reply! It seems like you have had the same problems as me. Do you remember what you paid to get everything fixed? And has anything else come up since then? I just want to prepare myself for what to expect. Thanks for your help!

Hey, no problem, that's what we're here for. I remember that the whole drama with the coding on my Skoda Octavia was fixed after the visit to the mechanic. I had to pay around €180 for it because the fault was with the chip tuning, which was done by a third-party supplier. It wasn't cheap, but the car has been running again ever since. Nothing has come up since then, so I can say that it was worth it in the end. I hope it will be the same for you!

Brilliant, thanks for the info! It's good to know that it can be fixed and isn't too expensive. I certainly hope it's a chip tuning issue for me too and nothing more serious. It's good to hear that your car is running correctly again and that no other problems have arisen. I will now contact my mechanic and have everything checked. Hopefully everything will go smoothly. Your experience has really given me hope. Thanks again!
