Diagnostics and Solutions for 2021 Fiat Talento Diesel's Engine Issues: Black Smoke, Engine Shutting Off, Poor Mileage and Stalling
Summary of the thread
The 2021 Fiat Talento Diesel is experiencing issues such as black smoke, engine shutdowns, poor mileage, and stalling. These symptoms suggest potential problems with the low-pressure fuel system, possibly due to incorrect software values for the fuel pump, as seen in a similar case with a Fiat Ducato. A suggested solution is to have the software rewritten with correct values, which previously resolved similar issues. The owner plans to discuss these insights with a mechanic for further diagnosis and resolution.

Hey, thanks for the input! It's interesting what you said about the fuel pump software - I'll bear it in mind when I approach my mechanic. As for your question, I haven't really been using the car too much since the issues popped up, but I'd say the fuel consumption is a little higher than usual. I'd just done a service at 60041 km, but it's been acting up since then. On a side note, I'm still open to hearing from others who might have tackled a similar issue. Let's keep this discussion informative and helpful for anyone who might need it! Cheers!

Hey again! Yeah, excessive fuel consumption could indeed signal something's off with the fuel system. On my Ducato, the incorrect fuel pump software values were messing up the fuel economy by dumping more fuel in the engine than needed, which seems fairly similar to your situation. Just a heads up, I also noticed deteriorated performance on a cold start and similar symptoms to yours appeared gradually. So, if you're experiencing the same, it's quite likely the fuel system is to blame. Of course, your mechanic will be able to tell better with a proper diagnosis, but it's worth mentioning this to see if it helps narrow down the problem. Finally, one more thing that I remember is that when I didn’t use my car for a couple of days, it would then start and run better for a while until the problems came back. Not sure if you've noticed anything similar, but if yes, it's another sign pointing to the fuel system. Good luck! Hope you get your Fiat Talento back in top shape soon.

Hey, appreciate the heads up! Exactly, I've had similar experiences with my Talento - it does run a bit better after a "rest". I can also relate to the cold start problems you mentioned. It's a great point you brought up about the fuel economy, I didn't really link the issues together before. I’m all geared up to discuss these details with my mechanic now. Let's hope he gets the hang of it pretty quick. And yes, I'll definitely keep everyone updated so that others could benefit from this down the line. Thanks again for taking your time out and sharing your experience, really appreciate it! Cheers!

Hey there! I'm not exactly a car guru, but I've had a bit of experience with car issues, and I may know what's happening. My 2019 Fiat Ducato (pretty comparable to your Talento) had similar symptoms a while ago. The thing was, my workshop discovered incorrect software values for the fuel pump. The workshop had to rewrite the software with the correct values and it did the trick! It set me back around 45 Euro, which wasn't too bad. Just a quick question - have you noticed a decrease in your fuel level without really driving much too? It might help me understand your situation better. Hope this snapshot of my experience is of some help to you!
