Difficulties with glow plug in 2013 Renault Trafic Diesel: experience and solutions wanted

Hi guys, I have a problem with my 2013 Renault Trafic Diesel, currently with 117042 km mileage. Indicator light is on, black smoke on acceleration, longer time to cold start, problems with DPF regeneration and the pre-glow indicator light does not go out could this indicate a glow plug malfunction, right? Have you had similar problems? What was your experience at the mechanic? My last visit to one was not such a good experience. Any feedback on this issue would be helpful. Thanks in advance!

Summary of the thread

A 2013 Renault Trafic Diesel is experiencing issues such as an illuminated indicator light, black smoke during acceleration, extended cold start times, DPF regeneration problems, and a persistent pre-glow indicator light. These symptoms suggest a potential glow plug malfunction. A similar case with a 2010 Renault Megane revealed a faulty control unit, which was resolved by replacing the ECU, leading to improved vehicle performance. The solution involved a significant repair but ultimately restored the car's functionality.

Did this summary help you solve your problem?

Hey, I had exactly the same symptoms with my 2010 Renault Megane. The whole thing was a bit annoying, I have to say. It turned out that the control unit was faulty. I took my car to the garage and they replaced the ECU. It was a bigger job than I thought because they had to take parts of the engine apart to get to it. But after the replacement, the car ran like clockwork again. It's definitely no fun when the ECU gives up the ghost, but at least they were able to fix it without any further problems. Hopefully that will be the case for you too. Good luck!

Hey, thanks for the reply, that sounds really stressful with the control unit. Can you remember how much the whole thing cost you? And did anything else come up after the repair? LG

Hey, no problem, always happy to help. So the fun with the control unit came to a whopping €575. I had to swallow first, I tell you. But at least the fault was rectified and the car ran properly again. And yes, the malfunction of a glow plug that you mentioned was actually a problem for me too. I had the same symptom with the pre-glow indicator light. After my visit to the mechanic, however, it was quickly sorted out. Since then there's been nothing new, everything runs like clockwork. Hope it goes as smoothly for you too! LG

Wow, that's not exactly a small amount. But the main thing is that the problem has been solved and nothing else has come up. Glad to hear everything is going well with your car. I hope mine goes just as smoothly. Thanks for sharing your experience with me. LG
