Difficulties with keyless entry and flickering lights in BMW 6 Series (2006)

Hi everyone, there is a problem with my 2006 BMW 6 Series with a gasoline engine and 66,190 km mileage that is really annoying me. I can't lock or unlock the car and the lights are quite dim or even flickering. I suspect that it could be a malfunction of the keyless entry system. Have any of you ever had a similar problem and how did it go with your mechanic? Unfortunately, I didn't have such a great experience last time and would like to know what to expect. Thanks in advance!

Yes, I can well understand that, it sounds like a real hassle. I had a similar problem with my 2009 BMW 3 Series. I could sometimes open the car, sometimes not lock it and the lights also flickered. I then took it to the garage and they discovered that it was a bit more complicated than just a malfunction of the keyless entry system. The electrical control systems built into the dashboard were actually faulty. They had to replace some parts and re-route the electrical wiring. So it may well be that you also have a serious electrical fault and not just the key. I would have the car checked to be on the safe side. Hope this helps you!

Hi, first of all thanks for sharing your experience with me. Pretty complicated stuff with the electrical systems, isn't it? Can I ask how much you paid for the repair? And have there been any other problems with your car since? Fingers crossed that nothing turns up. Many thanks in advance!

Hey, sure, no problem! Yes, it was a bit complicated, but since I've been to the mechanic, the malfunction of the keyless entry system has been completely rectified. The repair was pretty expensive. They discovered that the control unit was defective and that cost me €1000. But since then the BMW has been running like clockwork again, so I can't complain. Hopefully your car will stay in order. Good luck with it!

Hello, thank you very much for your frank reply. It doesn't sound particularly exciting, especially the high price for the repair. But finally having a solution to the problem sounds encouraging. It's really reassuring to know that your car is working perfectly again. Hopefully that will be the case for me too. Keep your fingers crossed and I'll definitely keep you posted on the final result! See you then!
