Discovery Climate Control Problems? Common Causes Revealed

Hey everyone! My 2020 Discovery D6 is acting up. The climate control system barely works, weak blower and poor heating/cooling performance. Also noticed a warning light on the dash. I suspect it might be related to a faulty solar sensor, but I'd love to hear from others who've dealt with similar issues. Has anyone experienced this and got it fixed? What did the workshop find and how did they resolve it? Looking for real experiences before taking it to the dealer. Thanks in advance!

Hey there! I had a similar issue with my 2018 Land Rover Discovery Sport diesel. Those climate control problems can be super annoying! I've got some experience working on cars (nothing professional, just a hobby mechanic), and this one had me scratching my head at first. My symptoms were exactly like yours, weak airflow and temperature issues. Turned out to be a damaged wiring harness that was causing all sorts of electrical gremlins in the climate control system. The workshop found that some wires had worn through near the blower motor. Total fix was 155 Euro, which wasn't too bad considering all the diagnostic work they had to do. Before I can give you more specific advice, could you tell me if you're getting any specific error codes? Also, does the blower work at all speeds or just some? These details would help figure out if you're dealing with the same issue I had.

Thanks, mine's at 83763 KM and just had its most recent service last month. I'm getting air flow only at the highest speed setting (5-6), but nothing on the lower ones. No error codes showing up on the dash, just that generic warning light I mentioned. The temperature readings seem way off too, shows 16°C when it feels more like 22°C inside. Really appreciate you sharing about that wiring harness issue. Sounds like it could be similar, especially with the electrical symptoms. Did you notice any burning smell before you got yours fixed? I'm getting a slight electrical smell when I run the blower at max speed, which has me a bit worried.

Hey again! Those symptoms you're describing sound eerily similar to what I dealt with. That electrical smell you mentioned, yes! That's exactly what I noticed too before getting it fixed. It's actually a good thing you mentioned that because it's definitely a red flag. You know what's really interesting? My Discovery was around the 80K mark too when this started happening. And that thing about the blower only working at high speeds, textbook sign of electrical issues, just like what I had. The temperature reading being off is another classic symptom. Mine was showing similar wonky readings before the fix. The fact that yours is off by about 6 degrees is pretty much identical to what I experienced. Quick word of caution though, that burning smell with the blower at max speed? I'd honestly try to avoid using it at max until you get it checked. When I had that smell, I later found out it was the wiring actually starting to melt, which could've gotten nasty if left unchecked. Given how similar this is to my situation, I'd bet good money it's the same wiring harness issue. Especially in these Discoveries, that particular harness seems to be a bit of a weak point. Would definitely recommend getting it checked out sooner rather than later, that burning smell isn't something you want to ignore. Let me know what you find out when you get it checked. I'm really curious if it turns out to be the same problem!

Thanks so much for the detailed response and sharing your experience! You've definitely convinced me to get this looked at ASAP, especially after hearing about the wiring actually melting in your case. That's pretty scary stuff. I've just booked it in for next week at my regular workshop. Going to mention the wiring harness issue specifically to them, given how similar our symptoms are. The burning smell was the final red flag for me, I've actually turned off the climate control completely now until it gets checked out. Better safe than sorry! I'll stick to driving with the windows down for a few days. Not ideal, but definitely beats risking any electrical fires! Will update the thread once I get the diagnosis. Really grateful for your help in potentially saving me from a bigger headache (and expense) down the road. Sometimes these car issues can be so frustrating, but it's great having experienced to bounce ideas off! Thanks again, you've been super helpful!
