Thanks for your detailed reply! My Discovery has 147502 KM and just had its service last month. Got the codes read, showing P0011 and P0021. Oil pressure seems normal at idle, but definitely concerning about those metal shavings. Looking at the service history, the timing chain tensioner was never replaced, so that might be related. Been trying to decide between taking it to a specialist or attempting the solenoid replacement myself since parts aren't too expensive. How long did your repair take? Did you notice immediate improvement after the solenoid replacement?

Hey there! I've got some experience working on cars (some experience). Had a similar issue with my '02 Range Rover HSE last year. Those symptoms sound very familiar, my car was doing almost the exact same thing. Turned out to be a faulty neck shaft solenoid valve. Definitely not fun! Took it to my regular workshop, they diagnosed it and replaced the solenoid valve. Cost me about 250 Euro, not cheap, but better than letting it get worse. The funny thing is, my had similar issues with his LR Freelander too. Before I can give you more specific advice, have you checked the oil pressure? Any specific error codes from the CEL? When did you last change your oil? BTW, those metal particles in the oil are concerning, might want to get that checked ASAP before it causes more damage.
