DMax electronic handbrake failure

My 2014 Chevrolet DMax, diesel, is throwing up some scary errors. The electronic handbrake isn't working AT ALL! The error memory is full of brake faults and the brake warning light is constantly on. Has anyone else had this problem? Could it be a brake sensor?

Summary of the thread

The 2014 Chevrolet DMax experienced a complete failure of the electronic handbrake, with the brake warning light constantly on and the error memory full of brake faults. The issue was suspected to be more than a simple sensor problem, potentially involving a defective electric motor in the brake calliper. It was advised to take the vehicle to a workshop for proper diagnostics, where it was confirmed that the electric motor in the brake calliper was indeed the problem, and the issue was resolved.

Did this summary help you solve your problem?

Sounds like a real pain! Those electronic parking brakes can be tricky. When you say "not working," do you mean it won't engage, won't disengage, or a combo of both? Have you had the chance to check the brake control module for any obvious damage or corrosion? Maybe try scanning for specific error codes beyond just "brake fault"? That could give you a more precise direction before you start tearing into things.

Thanks for the quick response! It won't engage OR disengage, it's totally dead. I don't have the tools to check the brake control module myself, and I'm a bit of a novice with cars. Is there anything else simple I could check myself?

Alright, totally dead is definitely not good. Given that it's both engaging and disengaging, and the error memory is full, chances are pretty high it's not just a simple sensor issue. From my experience with similar issues, a defective electric motor in the brake calliper is a prime suspect, but I would stop doing anything yourself. I would recommend taking it to a workshop with proper diagnostic tools. You don't want to mess with the brake control or vehicle safety systems. They'll be able to pinpoint the exact cause with a proper scanner.

Thanks a lot for the advice! I took it to the workshop as you suggested, and you were right. It was the electric motor in the brake calliper. Total cost for the repair was 505€, but at least it's fixed!
