DMax Gear Shift Indicator Malfunction
Summary of the thread
A 2018 Chevrolet DMax diesel is experiencing a malfunctioning gear shift indicator, with symptoms such as inability to engage gears, implausible shifting behavior, slippage, grinding noises, and a non-functional gear selection display. The suspected cause is a defective control unit, as indicated by stored error codes. Suggested solutions include checking wiring and connectors, but ultimately, a workshop confirmed the need for control unit replacement.

Yes, the wiring appears intact, and the error codes point towards the control unit itself. Could a software refresh potentially resolve this, or is physical replacement the more likely solution?

In my experience, given the range of symptoms and the stored error codes pointing directly to the control unit, a hardware failure is more probable than a software glitch. I would advise taking it to a reputable workshop for diagnosis and repair.

Thank you for the advice. Confirmed with a workshop; the control unit is indeed defective, and replacement is necessary. Repair cost will be around 1000€. I appreciate the assistance.

That sounds like a serious issue. Have you checked the wiring harness and connectors to the transmission control module? Sometimes a loose connection can cause similar symptoms. Also, are there any specific error codes stored in the system?
