Doblo Camshaft Sensor Error

Hey, I'm having a nightmare with my 2005 Fiat Doblo diesel. It's got 158123 km on the clock. Recently, it's started really struggling to start, and then sometimes just stalls when I'm idling. The check engine light is also on. I plugged in an OBD reader and it's throwing up a camshaft sensor error. Could this be the encoder wheel thingy I read about? Any ideas?

Summary of the thread

A 2005 Fiat Doblo diesel is experiencing starting difficulties, stalling, and a check engine light, with an OBD reader indicating a camshaft sensor error. The issue may be linked to a worn or damaged encoder wheel on the camshaft, affecting sensor readings. It is advised to have the vehicle inspected by a professional to confirm the diagnosis and address the problem.

Whoa, that sounds way too familiar! I had almost the exact same problem with my Doblo. Check engine light, stalling, the whole shebang. For me, it turned out to be the camshaft sensor too! Did the code reader mention anything about the crankshaft sensor? Sometimes those two go hand-in-hand. It could also be just a sensor failure, but honestly, it does sound like that encoder wheel thing you mentioned.

Thanks for the quick reply! No, the reader only mentioned the camshaft sensor, nothing about the crankshaft one. How did you figure out it was definitely the encoder wheel? Was it obvious when you took it apart, or did you just replace everything?

I didn't take anything apart myself, to be honest. Electrics scare me! I took it straight to a workshop after doing a little research. They confirmed it was the encoder wheel on the camshaft that was causing the camshaft sensor to throw errors. They said the teeth on the wheel were worn or damaged, which was messing with the sensor readings. I'd strongly recommend getting it checked out by a professional. It cost me around 700€ to get it sorted.

Okay, thanks so much for sharing your experience! Sounds like I need to bite the bullet and get it to a mechanic. Hopefully, it's just the encoder wheel and nothing more serious. I will post again when I have it fixed!
