Doblo NOx Catalyst Exhaust Leak

Having trouble with my 2007 Fiat Doblo, gasoline engine. Check engine light keeps coming on, error memory says NOx storage catalyst. I've also noticed what sounds like a slight exhaust leak. The car has 157060 km on it. Could this be related to the aging of the NOx storage catalyst, maybe made worse by the exhaust leak?

Summary of the thread

The 2007 Fiat Doblo is experiencing a persistent check engine light with an error related to the NOx storage catalyst, accompanied by a slight exhaust leak. The issue may be linked to the aging NOx catalyst, potentially exacerbated by the exhaust leak. A suggested solution is to inspect the exhaust system for holes or cracks, particularly around joints, as these can affect emissions and fuel efficiency. Repairing any leaks and possibly replacing the catalyst could resolve the problem.

I had similar issues on my Doblo. Check engine light, NOx errors. First thing I'd look at is the exhaust system. Have you checked for holes or cracks? It doesn't take much of a leak to throw off the emissions system. Is your fuel efficiency also suffering?

Thanks! I haven't been able to get under the car for a thorough inspection yet, but I'll check for exhaust leaks more closely. Did you notice any specific areas where the leaks were likely to occur? And yes, I noticed a slight decrease in fuel efficiency.

For me, the leak was near one of the joints in the exhaust pipe. The corrosion had weakened the metal. With the light and fuel consumption increasing, you should have your workshop check the pipes. I ended up needing a new catalyst, and the bill was around 265€ including installation.

Thank you so much for sharing! I'll take it to the workshop to have the exhaust system inspected and the NOx catalyst checked. Knowing it could be a corroded joint gives me a place to start. Hopefully, it's just a simple fix. Thanks again!
