Had similar vehicle HVAC troubles with my ProMaster 2018 last season. Actually turned out to be control unit problems rather than the AC compressor. Your symptoms sound identical to mine. The car air conditioning issues cleared up completely after the fix and everything has worked perfectly since then. Really glad I got that second opinion before jumping into an expensive compressor replacement. Just curious, how much did your automotive cooling system repair end up costing? And has the fix held up well since then? Always good to compare notes on these repairs since refrigerant leak issues and AC problems are so common on these vans.

Got an update on my Ram 2500 repair situation. The automotive cooling system has worked flawlessly since getting it fixed. The air conditioning repair resolved all the control unit problems completely, no more warning lights or system failures. Like your ProMaster experience, proper diagnosis showed it wasnt a bad AC compressor after all. The complete repair including the new air conditioning control unit came to 980€. While not cheap, it was way less than a full compressor replacement would have cost. The auto refrigerant system is running perfectly 6 months later. Getting that second opinion definitely saved money in the long run. These control unit issues seem pretty common across similar models, but at least its a reliable fix once properly diagnosed. Sounds like we both dodged unnecessary compressor replacements by having thorough diagnostic testing done first. These HVAC control modules can cause identical symptoms to major component failures.

Thanks for sharing your repair experience. After checking multiple shops and getting burned on previous fixes, I finally found a reputable mechanic who properly diagnosed my vehicle HVAC system. The car air conditioning control unit replacement including parts and labor came to 890€. Much better than the 2100€ quote I got for an unnecessary compressor swap. The cooling system has worked perfectly for the past 4 months with no warning lights or issues. The shop did a thorough diagnosis including refrigerant pressure testing before recommending the control module fix. Really glad I trusted my gut and got that second opinion instead of rushing into expensive repairs. The auto AC repair resolved all the problems completely. Looking back, finding an experienced technician who properly diagnosed the real issue saved me from getting ripped off again. These ProMaster control units seem to be a common weak point, but at least its a reliable fix when done right.

Had the same auto AC repair situation on my 2015 Dodge Ram 2500 diesel last summer. The symptoms matched, no cooling, system not engaging, warning lights. Initially thought it was the compressor too, but diagnostic testing revealed the AC control unit was the actual culprit. The control unit failure prevented the system from activating the compressor clutch, causing the complete shutdown of the cooling system. This is a common issue in these models. The repair involved replacing the electronic control module for the air conditioning system and recharging the refrigerant. While not as expensive as a full compressor replacement, it was still a significant repair that required specialized diagnostic equipment to properly identify. Getting a second opinion is smart since refrigerant leak testing and electrical diagnostics should be done before replacing major components. The repair resolved all issues, proper cooling function returned and warning lights cleared. These control unit failures are known weak points in the cooling system. Would definitely recommend having a certified shop perform proper diagnostics rather than jumping straight to compressor replacement. For peace of mind, find a shop that specializes in automotive AC repair and can show you the diagnostic test results before starting repairs.
