Thank you for your feedback. My car now has approx. 59871 km on the clock and the last service was only recently. I'm really at a loss and hope that I don't have to spend a lot of money in the workshop. I'm really not sure, it could possibly be the ignition system, I haven't even thought of that yet. I'll try to have it checked at a specialist workshop. How much did it cost you back then? Thanks again!

Hey, no problem, that's what we're here for, to exchange ideas. With your additional information, it will be difficult to decide. But since you want to go to the workshop anyway, I would just tell them what's going on if I were you. The people there have the knowledge and equipment to determine whether it really is intake VANOS or something else. Adjusting the timing cost me €1150 at the time. The noise you heard could indeed be caused by problems with the ignition system, but it could also be something else. In any case, metal shavings in the oil are never a good sign, so please have it checked. Keep us posted and let us know what the garage says. Cheer up !

Hello again, thank you very much for your advice. You're absolutely right, it's probably best if I just tell the experts at the workshop and have them check it out. I'm also worried about the metal shavings, I'll definitely have that checked. I'll keep you posted as soon as I know more. I just hope the repair won't be too expensive. Thanks again for your help!

Hi, I have a bit of experience with cars, but I'm not a professional. I had a similar problem with my 2013 BMW 1 series gasoline engine. It sounds to me like the timing is out of adjustment. I would recommend you go to a garage and get it checked out. Are you sure there are no problems with your ignition system? It might also help if you give us a few more details about your car. How many kilometers has it run and how regularly has it been serviced? This could help to pinpoint the problem more precisely. Good luck!
