DS3 Camshaft Sensor Error

My 2012 Citroen DS3 diesel is starting poorly, sometimes stalling, and the check engine light is on. My OBD2 scanner shows a camshaft sensor error. Could a defective camshaft sensor cause these issues? What camshaft sensor testing should I do?

I also own a DS3. A defective camshaft sensor can certainly cause those symptoms. I faced a similar issue some time ago with the engine misfiring. Have you checked the encoder wheel on the camshafts? That was the eventual culprit in my case.

Thanks! I haven't checked the encoder wheel specifically. Is it easy to access and inspect myself, or does it require special tools? What should I be looking for?

The encoder wheel's integrity is crucial for accurate camshaft position sensing, and subsequent engine control. Visual inspection for damage or debris is possible, but professional diagnosis is advisable. Based on my experience and the issues you're seeing, I recommend having it checked at a reputable workshop.

Okay, thanks. The workshop confirmed the encoder wheel was defective! It cost 695€ to repair, but it's running smoothly now. Appreciate the help!
