Interesting, the handbrake analogy is spot on. Is there anything else I should be checking before I start tearing things apart?

Honestly, just had the same symptoms. I'd say save yourself the headache and get it checked at a workshop. It's likely that switch. I ended up paying around 100€ for it including labor. Time is money, right?

I'll get it booked in. It ended up costing me 95€ at the shop. Clutch switch was indeed faulty!

Sounds familiar! I had something similar with my DS3. Check the clutch switch, it's a known issue. Does it feel like you're trying to start a car with the handbrake on?
