DS3 starting problem
Summary of the thread
A 2012 Citroen DS3 diesel with 194856 km is experiencing starting issues, where it sometimes cranks but won't fire, starts rough then shuts off, or even dies while driving. The battery and fuel pump seem fine, leading to suspicions about the ignition switch, a fuse, ignition coil, or the key. After taking it to a local garage, a defective fuse related to the ignition system was identified and replaced, resolving the issue.

Key turns smoothly enough. The dashboard lights up as normal when I turn the key, all the usual warning lights come on. And no error messages. It's all very strange. Did your DS3 have similar symptoms?

Yeah, similar symptoms to yours. I’d strongly advise you to take it to a reputable workshop or certified Citroen mechanic and let them take a look at it. In the end I had to do that and it fixed it.

Took it to a local garage. Turns out there was a defective fuse related to the ignition system. They replaced it, and so far, so good. Cost me 52€. Hopefully, that's the end of it!

Sounds frustrating. I had a similar problem with my Citroen DS3. I never pinpointed what the error was, but I would check if the key turns smoothly in the ignition or if it feels like it's getting stuck. Does the dashboard light up as normal when you turn the key to the 'on' position? Also, any error messages on the dashboard?
