DS4 AC and Temperature Sensor Issues

I've got a 2022 Citroen DS4, hybrid engine, and recently I've been seeing some weird stuff. I'm getting error messages popping up and the air conditioning just refuses to kick on. Plugged it into a reader and it's throwing a 'temperature sensor heat exchanger defective' code. Anyone seen anything like this before I start tearing things apart? I do regular vehicle maintenance myself.

Summary of the thread

A 2022 Citroen DS4 with a hybrid engine is experiencing issues with the air conditioning not engaging and error messages appearing. The error code indicates a 'temperature sensor heat exchanger defective,' suggesting a possible sensor malfunction. However, it is advised to inspect the sensor and wiring for damage and consider that the root cause might be a malfunctioning air conditioning control unit, which could require professional diagnosis and repair.

Did this summary help you solve your problem?

I had a similar issue with my DS4, though I didn't pull the error code myself. The symptoms sound identical: AC refusing to engage and dashboard lit up. Given the 'temperature sensor heat exchanger defective' code, it indeed points towards sensor malfunction. Before jumping to conclusions, have you inspected the sensor and its wiring for any visible damage?

Thanks for the quick reply! I did a quick visual check, but didn't see anything obvious like frayed wires or corrosion. Where exactly is this sensor located? Maybe knowing where to look will help me spot something I missed. Also, did your error code reader indicate problems in the cooling system?

Citroen’s diagnostic routines often pinpoint the symptom rather than the root cause. In my case, the defective sensor was a consequence of a malfunctioning air conditioning control unit, which skewed readings, causing the temperature sensor to report anomalies and triggering the error messages. Though you might find a faulty sensor, I'd suggest a visit to a workshop because with the diagnostic information you have gathered from your error code reader, the mechanics can better determine if replacing the AC control unit and potentially the sensor would be a beneficial resolution to the problem.

Appreciate the advice! Sounds like this might be a deeper issue than just a simple sensor swap. Looks like I'll be taking it to the shop next week. They confirmed what you suspected – defective AC control unit caused the sensor error. Quoted me 980€ for the repair. Thanks again for the help!
