DS5 battery issue

Hi, I've got a 2011 Citroen DS5, diesel engine, with a strange battery issue. It's done 98071 km. I keep getting an error message in the speedometer. Also, the lights seem weak, almost flickering sometimes, and the engine is slow to start. I plugged in an OBD reader and it shows an error related to the battery. Could a weak battery cause all this?

Summary of the thread

A 2011 Citroen DS5 with a diesel engine is experiencing a battery issue, indicated by an error message on the speedometer, weak lights, and slow engine starting. These symptoms, along with an OBD error code, suggest a weak battery or related system problem. Possible causes include battery drain or a defective battery sensor. It is recommended to have a qualified technician perform a diagnostic test to accurately identify and resolve the issue.

Indeed, a weak battery can manifest in a variety of ways in modern vehicles. The error message, weak lights, and slow starting are all consistent with that diagnosis. Furthermore, the error code retrieved from the OBD reader strongly suggests a problem with the battery or its associated systems. Have you checked the battery terminals for corrosion or loose connections? Battery drain could also be a factor.

Thanks for the quick reply! I did check the battery terminals; they seem clean and tight. What do you mean by 'battery drain'? Could something be draining the battery even when the car is off?

Yes, 'battery drain' refers to a situation where a component within the vehicle continues to draw power from the battery even when the engine is not running and all systems should be idle. This could be due to a faulty module or a short circuit in the wiring. Given the symptoms and the error code, a defective battery sensor is a likely culprit. I recommend having a qualified technician perform a comprehensive diagnostic test to pinpoint the exact cause. Attempting repairs without proper knowledge may exacerbate the issue.

Thanks a lot for the advice! I took it to a workshop, and you were right - it was the battery sensor. Repair cost me 315€. Everything seems to be working fine now.
