DS5 Hybrid Engine Power Loss Jerking Smoke

I'm experiencing a worrying issue with my 2014 Citroen DS5 hybrid. It's got about 51,976 km on the clock. Recently, I've noticed a significant reduction in engine power, accompanied by some pretty nasty jerking when accelerating. If that wasn't bad enough, it's also started producing smoke under acceleration. I hooked it up to a code reader, and it's storing an error, although I haven't fully investigated that yet. My initial thought is that it might be pre-ignition or engine knock related to deposit buildup. I'm thinking maybe it's something to do with a faulty knock sensor or incorrect ignition timing. Has anyone else experienced similar symptoms?

The symptoms you describe, particularly the reduced engine power, jerking, and smoke, combined with a stored error code, do suggest a potential issue with abnormal combustion. Deposits in the combustion chamber can indeed lead to pre-ignition and engine knock. Have you considered investigating possible issues with your engine tuning?

Thanks for your insight. When you say 'engine tuning', could you elaborate? What specific aspects of the engine tuning should I be checking or considering?

By engine tuning, I am referring to the calibration of various engine parameters, including ignition timing and fuel mixture. Deviations from the factory settings, often caused by software or hardware modifications, can lead to combustion abnormalities. Given the symptoms and the hybrid engine, I strongly recommend consulting a qualified workshop for a comprehensive diagnosis. Attempting to rectify complex engine issues without the necessary expertise and equipment can potentially exacerbate the problem.

Thanks for the advice. I took it to a local independent garage, and they confirmed it was carbon deposits in the combustion chamber causing the knocking. They performed a cleaning service, and the total cost was around 425€. It seems to have resolved the issue. Really appreciate the help!
