DS5 Hybrid Transmission Issues

I'm having a perplexing issue with my 2014 Citroen DS5 hybrid (113943 km). The engine/transmission warning light illuminates intermittently, and an error is stored. The gearbox occasionally enters emergency mode, with slippage/unclean shifts. Sometimes, there's a grinding noise when shifting. I suspect a fault with the transmission oil pressure sensor. Could a low gearbox oil level cause these issues, and what steps should I take?

Grinding noises and slipping? Sounds nasty! Those pressure sensors are usually pretty reliable, but if the oil level is low, the pump can't build up pressure properly. It’s definitely worth checking the basics first. Have you had the gearbox oil level checked recently? A faulty pressure switch or even a dodgy oil sensor can also throw up those kinds of errors.

Could you elaborate on the location of the transmission oil pressure sensor? Also, how complex is it to check the gearbox oil level, and are there any precautions I should take?

I'm not 100% sure on the DS5 hybrid gearbox, but the pressure sensor is usually screwed into the transmission housing itself, somewhere near the valve body. As for checking the oil level, it varies depending on the gearbox type, but on most you need to get the car level, find the fill plug (usually on the side of the gearbox), and take it out. Oil should just about dribble out if it's full. If you're not comfortable doing it yourself, get it to a workshop ASAP, before you cause any more damage!

I took the vehicle to a reputable workshop, as suggested. The gearbox oil level was critically low, causing the symptoms. The technician identified and fixed a minor leak and refilled the system with oil. The repair cost 365€, including diagnosis, leak repair, and oil. The vehicle is now functioning optimally.
